New to podcasts?
A podcast is an audio file. Thanks to timely product development, the term came from the combination of the words "iPod" and "broadcasting."
Podcasting is any Internet-based broadcast, usually spoken, that is updated regularly for listeners. A podcast is any audio file on the Web that you can download and listen to whenever you want. Podcasts work on any portable music player, such as a Rio Carbon or a Samsung YP-Z5, and not just Apple's iPod. Indeed, podcasts work just fine on desktop and laptop computers.
How to listen
1. Listen now
To play a podcast on your computer, simply click the MP3 Audio button next to the podcast's date of broadcast. The podcast will begin to play using your computer's media player.
2. Listen later
In most cases, you can place your mouse over the MP3 Audio button and right-click. Choose "Save target as" or something similar to that on the menu, and the podcast will be saved on your computer. Later, locate the podcast file and double-click on it to play.
3. Listen on your iPod or other player
The process of automatically downloading podcasts to an portable music player is called subscribing.
