Commercial Printing
In the fall of 1999, The Wenatchee World installed one of the most state-of-the-art web presses in the world. The tower-designed press is housed in the 30,000 square foot Wilfred R. Woods Production Facility in Wenatchee, Wash. The KBA Comet press allows The World to produce full color images on every page of an entire press run at speeds up to 65,000 copies per hour.
Specifications
The Wenatchee World's KBA Comet press has superb capacity and routinely prints with 110 line screens. To speed change over and build consistency, The World uses full color in all positions rather than spot color inks. Press capacity includes: 32-page broadsheet publications (2 sections) 64-page tabloid publications 96-page stitched and trimmed booklets Paper stocks include newsprint, HiBrite and book stock. Most paper stocks are recycled paper. All colored ink used by the Wenatchee World is soy based. Because soy ink provides more intense color, less ink is used.
Staffing The World's press department is made up of some of the most talented press operators in the region. Staff turn-over is extremely low resulting in excellent quality.
Awards
The Wenatchee World has one of the most award winning print departments in the nation. For three straight years The World won first place in color print quality in the nationwide Inland Press Association print quality contest. In previous years The World has garnered other print quality awards including the Pacific Northwest Press Association print quality awards.
